Crime and Punishment

The main idea of this story narrates the murder of two people: an elderly pawnbroker named Elena Ivanovna and her sister Lisbeth, who were killed by the young Raskolnikov. Raskolnikov began suffering from a psychological disorder due to his impoverished circumstances. He complained daily about his life, feeling burdened by others, and had abandoned his law studies despite being a very intelligent young man. His only means of survival was the jewelry and clothing his mother and sister gave him, which he pawned with the pawnbroker. She subjected him to humiliation every time he went to her to return a valuable item.

Because of this, the boy decided to plan the crime, and it was on that very day that he approached her room as he usually did to pawn things. That day, the old woman, more than ever, took shortcuts and looked at him with suspicion. At that moment, when the pawnbroker turned her back on him, Raskolnikov attacked her with an axe, splitting her head in two. Elena could do nothing; she only clutched the wound with her hand and half-sighed in pain. The young man attacked again without any mercy. He only noticed that the pawnbroker's sister realized what had happened and looked at him with fear. It was then that Raskolnikov also murdered Listbeth. Afterward, he began to clean the scene of the crime. He became nervous and confused and left the place.

After a few days of nightmares and sleepless nights, one day the police summoned him, and when they spoke to him about the matter, he fainted, and his health worsened. He showed great guilt in all his actions. In his most difficult moments, Sonia was attentive to his care, and he told her not to worry, that she didn't deserve to be there. Anxious about someone like him, he decides to confess the crime to Sonia, who gives him her full support. A month after his confession, he is sentenced to eight years in prison and forced labor in Siberia.
